Goals and Objectives

The purpose of this meeting is to convene an international group of clinical, translational, and basic researchers to discuss urologic complications of obesity and diabetes including bladder (LUTS and UI), UTI, BPH, and erectile dysfunction.  The meeting is planned as a series of short presentations on the current state of knowledge, knowledge gaps, public awareness of the issues, and future directions for research on urologic complications among men and women with obesity and/or diabetes.  The primary goal is to identify areas of priority for future research (clinical trials, translational research, and basic research) to reduce the health care burden of these complications.  By virtue of the relatively small size of this meeting, we hope that investigators will form international collaborative research working groups and initiate potential new areas of research.  It is very likely that an eventual result of this meeting will be an NIDDK program announcement.
