In an effort to facilitate the career development of NIDDK supported investigators and help in their transition to independent research careers, the Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolic Diseases (DEM) and the Digestive Diseases and Nutrition (DDN) divisions of the NIDDK are co-sponsoring a ‘New Investigators' Workshop’ April 24-25, 2006 on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. Participation in the workshop is by invitation only.

The purpose of the meeting is to offer NIDDK career development awardees an in-depth view of the NIH, the NIDDK, and the grants' process. The meeting will provide an opportunity to become familiar with the roles of various NIH staff, the types of grant support and resources available, and the inner workings of the peer review system. Senior investigators from the endocrine and gastroenterology communities will provide grant writing tips and career advice. There will be ample time for questions and answers during the two-day workshop. The meeting location and format will encourage networking among participants. NIDDK program staff will be available for discussions of future individual research projects.
