Goals and Objectives- To assemble epidemiologists, urologists, health outcomes researchers, basic scientists, and other interested researchers to consider the importance of modifiable risk factors in the etiology of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS)/Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and its progression with the long-range goal of embarking on intervention studies.
- To explore our current knowledge of the epidemiology, including the natural history, of this condition.
- To review various measures in use clinically and for epidemiological studies, including addressing the utility/feasibility and validity/reliability of the measures.
- To review the epidemiology of modifiable risk factors, including identifying data gaps.
- To consider novel approaches to uncover the etiology of LUTS/BPH, including studies of inflammation and gene expression.
- To identify and prioritize future research in endpoint definition and measurement, modifiable risk factors, epidemiology, and basic research aimed at future efforts of prevention.
